2 bigha in acre is 1.25 acre using the pucca bigha of Uttar Pradesh, central Bihar and east Rajasthan. In most other states a bigha is smaller, so 2 bigha comes to less than one acre.
The formula
Acre = bigha × (sq ft in one bigha) ÷ 43,560. For the pucca bigha: 2 × 27,225 = 54,450 sq ft, and 54,450 ÷ 43,560 = 1.25 acre.

Reading it in a land record
Say you own 2 bigha in a West Bengal village. Your khatian will not say 2 bigha. It will show about 0.66 acre, written as 66 decimal or so. If the record shows a very different figure, the bigha used in your deal may not be the West Bengal bigha, or the record may cover only part of the land. Ask the block land office.
What about Maharashtra?
The bigha is not part of Maharashtra land records. Land there is shown in hectare and are on the 7/12, with acre and guntha in older entries. If someone in Maharashtra talks of bigha, ask which state's bigha they mean. With the pucca bigha, 2 bigha is 50 guntha. With the Gujarat vigha, it is 32 guntha.
